Weekend Trip To Stockholm

Last weekend we "did" Stockholm. The drunken ferry, bike polo, beer, mashing around the town, the Finland vs. Sweden match even made it into the local newspaper. Great trip all in all, many thanks for the Stockholm boys and girls for hosting us in Söder!

Blog Introduction: Velo Helsinki Style Blog

It's been a while since I last picked out an interesting new blog. So this came right on time:

"This photo blog is about documenting the looks of cyclists in Helsinki. We think they are awesome! So we try to do our best to give our fellow riders the credit they deserve."

The almost brand new Velo Helsinki @ http://www.velohelsinki.com/ seems to take their inspiration from a certain original Danish female cyclist stalking blog that spawned thousand copycats as well as from the infamously ridiculous Hel Looks Helsinki street style blog.

I'm entirely sure what to think about the Velo Helsinki but I know for a fact that especially the comments added to the photos already induced some teeth grinding somewhere. Also, I guess it's not like everybody who will end up being photographed riding out on town and minding their own business will be super thrilled about ending on some style blog to be "flattered" with nice comments on their awesome bike or personal style.

Anyhow, despite all this let's hope the guys will keep busy and up the good work portraying HKI cyclists' styles.

Stadi Summer Session // Helsinki 20 August 2011

"Pohjoismaiden suurin BMX-kilpailu Stadi Summer Session järjestetään lauantaina 20. elokuuta Narinkkatorilla. Kilpailu on kiinnostanut BMX-maailman tähtiä, ja tänä vuonna tapahtumaan osallistuu yli 80 BMX-kuskia 22 maasta. Stadi Summer Sessionissa ovat mukana myös Suomen parhaat BMX-ajajat.


Narinkkatorille kohoava BMX-puiston on suunnitellut Nate Wessel, joka on yksi alan huippunimistä maailmassa. Puisto on suurin mitä Suomeen on koskaan rakennettu. Stadi Summer Session -kilpailua saapuvat juontamaan New Yorkin BMX-legenda Darryl Nau ja Euroopan BMX-guru Andy Zeiss.

- Juontajalla on tapahtuman tunnelman ylläpitämisessä todella iso rooli. Ammattijuontaja, joka tuntee temput ja kuskien tausta ja tyylin, nostaa tapahtuman aivan uudelle tasolle. Olemme erittäin tyytyväisiä, kun saimme Darrylin ja Andyn mukaan Stadiin, Stadi Summer Sessionin järjestäjä Risto Kalmre sanoo.


Kilpailu järjestettiin vuonna 2010 ensimmäistä kertaa Helsingissä. Se herätti paljon mielenkiintoa ympäri maailman, ja vuodessa Stadi Summer Session on noussut Pohjoismaiden suurimmaksi BMX-kesäkilpailuksi. Tavoitteena on tuoda yhteen maailman parhaita BMX-kuskeja sekä Pohjoismaiden ja Baltian alueiden nousevia tähtiä.


- Viimevuotisen kilpailun hyvän palautteen ansiosta saimme tänä vuonna mukaan uskomattoman listan huippukuskeja ympäri maailmaa. Sana kiirii nopeasti BMX-piireissä, ja Stadi Summer Session on kovassa nosteessa maailmalla. Tahdomme antaa myös paikallisille kuskeille mahdollisuuden näyttää kykynsä maailman huippujen seurassa. Kovatasoiset kilpailut ja tapahtumat ovat parhaita tapoja päästä seuraamaan millä tasolla maailmalla mennään.

Kisoissa ovat mukana muun muassa Ben Hennon, Sergio Layos, Gary Young, Tom Dugan, Eki Vainikka ja Andreas Lainewool."

Helsinki Bike Pockets In Practice

First official bike pockets were painted on the streets of downtown Helsinki last week. That was great, I personally think bike pockets are a great thing for cyclist struggling in busy city traffic.

Now here's just two photos showing how creative attitudes some motorists are showing towards the pockets:  Using the lane that the cyclist should use in order to pass the cars to get into the pocket as nicely marked new parking slots. But it's a learning process, right?

EDIT. But justice is being done!
