Velocity Chukker // Split Seam
Kyoichi's new Velocity Chukker split at the seam. And these were supposed to be some tough rims? Not like those exploding Chinese rims, right?
Quote from the man himself: "Fucking piece of shit!"
EDIT.
Just to make this more clearer and before the Velocity President Mr. John Black comes here to set me straight once again:
Everyone understands that stuff like rims can break or get damaged in certain conditions, right? One rim or whatever component breaking does not mean that every item produced by the company in question is no-good. Not even when the rim is question was marketed as a extra tough rim for 'the fixed gear tricks / bike polo community'...

Taco Case Closed
"Over the past few months I have received many questions regarding the one very well publicized rim fail in November of 2008. This is what has been posted (with the help of some photoshoping) on the internet as the “taco rim”. After receiving the rim from the customer we were able to run a material test and the results showed that everything was normal. In the wake of this incident and after selling H Plus Son rims for about 10 months now, we have only ever received this one complaint and request for the rim to be replaced under warranty (which of course we did). After all these months, it is safe to say that this was indeed an isolated incident. In this situation, it might be that one rim slipped out of our otherwise very strict quality control or it was damaged during shipping, it is hard to tell. The difficulty of making a rim at this depth while keeping the weight as low as it is requires a lot of effort and gives a very low margin for error. Whatever it was that went wrong with the infamous “taco rim”, we will continue to strive for the type of quality expected from the best brands and continue to improve on the demands of quality and perfection. During this incident, we have also learned about the challenges of operating our sort of business in the age of the internet. One misstep and we could have been gone. Bye-bye, game over, you lose. Yet, we have continued and the support of our customers for our passion and vision is definitely appreciated. But we also want to point out that a rim of this weight and shape has limits when it comes to heavy abuse. This is perhaps quite obvious. What is perhaps less so is our continued striving for unique and inspired products."
So, now let's forget about this and everybody go and order / buy some H+Son or Dodici or Velocity B43 rims, which ever takes your fancy. They're all pretty cool. Or even better, get some older Zipp, HED, Corima, FIR, Campagnolo or Gipiemme aero rims, carbon or alu, who cares, just as long you love them, ok?

H+Son Website & Online Store

H+Son finally got their game up a notch with a proper website including a blog and a global webstore. Way to go. I guess it was about time now that the Velocity peeps down under are getting their copy (yes, this should debated...) of the H+Son Formation Face rim out.

Aero Rim Wars: More Info On Velocity B43
Here's bit more info on the Velocity's new deep aero rim B43 that a company representative has posted on Trick Track forums.
* * *
"We are working hard on getting this rim to market. If all goes as planned, they should be readily available this spring. It is called the B43, because it is 43mm tall, making it 1mm taller than our very worthy and formidable competition.
It's hard to compare it to the Deep V. The B43 will be heavier than the Deep V, it's hard to say how much yet.

As for multiple drillings of the B43, we do plan on that, you guys doing tricks have been evolving and you're at the point now where you are doing some rather insane manuevers. We were not thinking of going down to a 28h though. Less spokes is usually indicitive of some one wanting light weight, the B43 will not be light.
It is a work in progress, we have actually received two different batches of extrusion and we are not quite satisfied yet. We are seriously considering modifying the design again and making the B43 wider. Can you imagine a 43mm tall rim by 24mm wide with 48 holes?!?! I'd say that would be just about bullet proof.
We definitely plan on doing a variety of drillings, at least 32h, 36h, and 48h. 650c will happen eventually. A variety of colors too. While they won't be the lightest rim on the planet, they shouldn't be a boat anchor either. The final product should be somewhere between 710 to 730 grams. We could make it lighter, but durability is our main concern.

As for price, it looks like we'll at least be competitive. Making good rims is not a cheap endeavor, sure we could source them out and have them made in China, but that would be selling out in my opinion."

So the rims will be super heavy. Also, talking shit about your competitors is not very nice, no matter how big your company in on the market.

New Dodici 40mm Deep Aero Rims

Dodici & Vintage Pista boys strike again with a brand new super aero track rim design straight outta Italy.
The rims are 40.5mm deep, no machined braking surface (of course not, come on now...), 3 internal chambers, should weight about 700gr and will be available in 16-28-32-36 hole drillings.
The best thing about the rims, besides the slightly lower weight in comparison to the previous generation Dodici rim model, is probably the fact that they use normal external nipples so that you can actually build the wheels and true them without taking everything apart. So these are looking pretty good, I guess.
